When I researched the background to the Bosnian war in which this book has its roots. I found there were atrocities committed by all the ethnic groups involved against each other. What happened to unhinge the harmony enjoyed by the population and how could it be restored? It was that seed that spurred this book. How three young victims from differing backgrounds attempt to rebuild their lives and the lengths they are forced to take, albeit through an illicit path that draws them ever deeper into criminal activity. Could people really stretch to the lengths the three main characters did with the same zeal? Probably, Possibly. Thats the beauty of fiction. Anything can happen in the creativity of our imagination.
